Managed to sleep in again till 09h30, sheer bliss and to be honest, I managed to do very little the whole day - the sun was out and it was the most gorgeous day, getting my wellies delivered obviously did the trick in terms of getting rid of the rain, YAY!
I had to do a few boring things like laundry - apparently some of the boys have been ironing only the sleeves of their chef jackets since we wear full aprons and you can't see too much of the rest anyway, truly back in student-mode but I'm a true Virgo, for my sins, and I just couldn't bring myself to do that so it was the full shooting match.........................pushed the hoover around the house for a while too, it's a battle against all the leaves, they're coming off the trees in their droves now and seem to want to be inside rather than outdoors.
And then it was time for the inevitable weekly filing session, honestly there's a veritable forest of recipes lying on the desk in my room, reams of paper and trying to put them into a section with any hope of finding them again at some point in the future is enough to do your head in - think of soufflé recipes, they could be breakfast items, lunch time savoury dishes, starters, main courses, desserts, it's too much, so I've shoved everything in some form of order that made sense to me at the time but I've no doubt that I'll be paging through the files in quiet desperation in a few days looking for things that I swore were pastries and which I'll eventually find under desserts or something, the pressure.
My wellies did well on their first trip out yesterday, picked some flowers in the rain for the kitchen table, bit of a rustic arrangement, not my forte I'm afraid and I've no intention of doing a course in that, so rustic it is.
I meant to post these piccies on Friday but I forgot - with it being October and Halloween month, there are pumpkins all over the school, looks really cute - of course there's a downside in that we've to learn all the different varieties, I suspect that's the "trick" part in Ballymaloe's version of trick-or-treat.
Red currant jelly, braised turnips, vanilla biscuits, haricot beans with tomato and rosemary and mango in lime syrup for me tomorrow......................the start of Week 3, we must surely be getting a bit better and with any luck it won't be quite so manic, fingers crossed.
